Killam is centrally located and is serviced by excellent transportation infrastructure. The Town of Killam is at the intersection of two major highways. The Town of Killam has 989 residents and has a public school for grades K-9, a general hospital and a recreation complex, which completed a $1-million expansion, and includes a heated swimming pool with hot tub, an ice arena, fitness room, and multi-purpose room for meetings.

Killam is one of the few remaining communities to be serviced by two major grain companies. Killam has two major farm implement dealerships and a thriving car dealership. The Co-op shopping centre, the 10,000 sq.ft Guardian Drugs, as well as many other retail businesses attract customer from a wide area. An optometrist, denturist, chiropractor, accountant, glass shop, auction market, and many contractors indicate the nature of the business district which generates the regional traffic flow.

Many factors add to the quality of life experienced in Killam. There is a full program of hockey, and baseball from minor to senior levels. There is an active Guides/Scouts group, 4-H, and other youth groups. There are also a number of active adult service clubs, including Lions and Royal Canadian Legion. The town and region are serviced by 6 local churches and a number of playgrounds and parks exist. Killam also has a large well-developed sports park, a walking trail, and two full-service campgrounds.
