Flagstaff County Owned Campgrounds

All of our campgrounds are now closed until the 2024 camping season.

Fees for Flagstaff County-operated campgrounds are as follows:

  • Powered sites: $30/night
  • Non-serviced sites: $25/night

We accept payment in cash or cheque. Please make cheques payable to “FLAGSTAFF COUNTY”. 

No firewood is provided.

All County-owned campgrounds open annually the Thursday before May long weekend.

Fish Lake, Edgerton, Strome and Galahad close annually on October 31, while Diplomat Trout Pond closes annually on November 30.

Diplomat Trout Pond

Site Details

  • Location: East side of Hwy 855, across from the Diplomat Mine Interpretive Site. Approximately 16 km from Forestburg.
  • Sites: 15 non-serviced sites.
  • What it has to offer: The Trout Pond is home to many wildlife and plant species and can be seen from the nature trail or lakeside gazebo.
  • Notes: Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservations allowed. Campers are only permitted to stay a maximum of 10 nights.

The Diplomat Trout Pond has been stocked annually with rainbow trout since 1980.

The pond has also been stocked annually with tiger trout since 2018, providing a new diverse fishing opportunity for anglers that fish at this location.

As for other fish species, there have been confirmed findings of only fathead minnows. There have been no reports of Prussian carp or goldfish in Diplomat Pond reported to the Department or to local fisheries biologists.

Edgerton Day Campground

Site Details

  • Location: 1 km south of Daysland on Rge Rd 163.
  • Sites: 12 powered sites (either 15 or 30 amp power on all sites).
  • What it has to offer: A covered picnic area for day stops, playground, multiple large group areas, large amount of overflow camping and parking.
  • Notes: Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservations allowed. Campers are only permitted to stay a maximum of 10 nights.

Fish Lake Park

Site Details

  • Location: North of Hwy 13, 2 km west of Hardisty.
  • Sites: 20 sites (8 serviced; 6 with 30 amp power, 2 with 15 amp power, and rest non-serviced).
  • What it has to offer: Two large group sites, day use area with a covered shelter, basketball hoop, fishing, lakeside gazebo, playground and beach area, swimming, fire pits, horseshoe pits, and golf course nearby. Only non-motorized boats allowed within Fish Lake.
  • Notes: Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservations allowed. Campers are only permitted to stay a maximum of 10 nights.

Galahad Campground

Site Details

  • Location: In Galahad on Guinevere Avenue East.
  • Sites: 6 sites with water and 30 amp power.
  • What it has to offer: A public washroom/shower house.
  • Contact: 780-384-4100.
  • Notes: Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservations allowed.

Galahad Municipal Grounds

  • Location: Former school grounds, northwest Galahad off Merlin Street.
  • Sites: Group camping to be utilized for such events as family reunions, weddings, etc.
  • What it has to offer: Showers and washrooms, ball diamonds, and fully enclosed gazebo with fire pit.

  • Notes: Reservations required. A $50 booking deposit is required. Cost is $75 per day, plus $10 per camping unit per day.

Strome Campground

  • Location: Northwest edge of town.
  • Sites: 25 non-serviced sites.
  • What it has to offer: Treed sites, fire pits, and fire grills, next to ball diamond, school playground, hall, and gazebo.
