Flagstaff Celebrates Success is an annual event designed as a night to celebrate the local business community and countless volunteers that help make the Flagstaff Region so unique.
While staying true to that original premise over the years, Flagstaff Celebrates Success has undergone a continuing evolution in terms of its format.
Initially, the event took the form of a business awards ceremony. In more recent years, Flagstaff Celebrates Success has featured a high-profile entrepreneur — Brett Wilson of Dragon’s Den fame in 2015 and Davids Tea co-founder David Segal in 2016.
This year’s night of celebration served up a blend of unique family entertainment, along with an informative and engaging business speaker. Edmonton-based magician Sheldon Casavant and a team of roving circus performers from throughout Alberta — including a fire eater, contact juggler, hula hooper and stilt walker — dazzled a crowd of more than 150 on October 11 at the Killam Community Hall. Meanwhile, Brenda Robinson of Sherwood Park-based training and consulting firm Robcan Group delivered a lighthearted but poignant keynote speech.
The majority of guests in attendance came from throughout Flagstaff County, while some attendees travelled from just outside of the region. Feedback (in-person, on feedback forms and through social media) on every facet of this year’s one-of-a-kind event was overwhelmingly positive.
Each year, the Economic Development Department reviews feedback from both attendees and Council to help determine the format and budget for the following year’s event.
The net cost of Flagstaff Celebrates Success 2017 was $25,967.73. That’s down from last year’s event, which cost $40,615.10.
Flagstaff Celebrates Success 2018 is tentatively slated for next October.
