Flagstaff Regional Airport will soon be getting a new energy-efficient runway lighting system to replace the current runway lights that were installed in 1982.

This project, which addresses an urgent infrastructure need at the municipal aerodrome, has been made possible by a $120,000 grant (75% of total eligible costs) funded under the Alberta Government’s Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP) — Community Airport Component.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $160,000. The remaining $40,000 will be covered by Flagstaff County’s airport reserves.

Alberta Transportation requires that projects of this magnitude be publicly tendered and delivered by the private sector.

The project has not yet gone out for tender.

Installation will occur later this year, shortly after a contractor is secured.
