Brush piles burned in the winter months appear to be out, but it is very common to have smoldering embers left in the bottom of these piles. Dry spring winds cause these embers in the pile to blow around causing stubble or grass fires.

If you burned brush piles or burn pits this winter, now is the time to check these piles to ensure they are completely extinguished. Stirring debris may expose smoldering spots that can be extinguished while conditions are suitable for control.

Remember fire permits are required prior to lighting any fires at any time in Flagstaff County.  To obtain a free fire permit, contact the County office.
