Winter Roadway Maintenance

Roadways are cleared of snow as necessary. During normal winter conditions, County gravel roads should be cleared of snow within four days, unless there is heavy snow and persistent winds.

Collector and local roads are cleared utilizing a fleet of 10 graders, each responsible for an average of 120 to 160 miles. One plow truck is designated to remove snow and apply sand/salt to oil and paved surface roads. Two graders are allocated for snow and ice removal on arterial roads. Back roads or blind roads will not be plowed unless deemed necessary by Public Works.

Please keep in mind that our crews will be out working on our roadways and to use extreme caution while travelling on these roads while they are being maintained in any way. Thank you.

Stockpiling

Crews will be stockpiling at the Daysland Stockpile Site, located south of Highway 13 on Range Road 170. Please use caution as gravel trucks will be turning onto and off of the highway.

Centerline Culvert Installation

Crews will be installing centerline culverts at various locations around the County. Please use caution and be aware that there may be temporary road closures.

Private Laneway Maintenance

Flagstaff County will once again be undertaking snow plowing on private laneways. Please contact the Public Works Department at 780-384-4123 for further details regarding this service. We will begin laneway inspections in November.

Road Closures

  • The road construction on Range Road 124, for 1.5 miles from the Sedgewick Lake Park Campground to Township Road 444 has been completed with the exception of bridge guardrail installation. When this installation occurs, there will be a decreased speed limit and single-lane road closure on this stretch of road.

Please be advised of the following road closures due to overland flooding and other issues:

  • Twp Rd 412 between Rge Rd 163 and 164 (southwest of Forestburg)
  • Rge Rd 164 between Twp Rd 454 and Twp Rd 460 (north of Daysland)

(Note: Please keep in mind that our seasonal crews will be out working on our roadways and to use extreme caution while travelling on these roads while they are being maintained in any way. We thank you in advance for your cooperation. Also keep in mind that projects may be delayed due to wet weather.)

A CLASSIC:

Judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind.

NOTHING…. so beautiful as the big spaces. Steering wheel hand-wavers…salt of the earth folks that are rock of civility. Nothing so beautiful as the empty…in prairie thunderstorm’s electrified sky….in the dance of sun-kissed canola in a breeze. Things resilient in the tug of war with life made complex in a hectic society. In oil and gas, agriculture, and land-based recreation activity that feels free, lies the ingredients for life authentically lived. We are rooted in land and people…seeking simplicity amidst the complexity of life. Flagstaff – full of classics.
